Video games are many things to many people. Some play them for a time and move on. For others, video games weave in and out of their lives as they grow older and have kids. And for people like me, video games have always been there–and probably always will be.
For people like Mats Steen, video games are a way to live their life. The upcoming Netflix documentary The Remarkable Life of Ibelin explores the life of a Norwegian gamer suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Using in-game assets, The Remarkable Life of Ibelin will show us a stylized peak into Mat Steen’s rich online life.
The Remarkable Life of Ibelin premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it received acclaim. It is scheduled for an upcoming release on Netflix on October 25th of this year.
