Unfortunately this is a movie that was ruined by its marketing. I am not the most strict about going into a movie blind, usually I think if the journey to the spoiler is good, the spoiler isn't actually a spoiler. But for this movie it absolutely is. Too much of the film relies on you knowing nothing about the story, the characters, and in order to enjoy the journey. Audition tends to be a big introduction to J-Horror. The film is practically ubiquitous with the the country's horror output, right their with Ringu. But unlike Ringu, Audition has maintained it origins, never getting a remake (note: there has been one in development for a long time) and for good reason. Audition is an incredible nuanced and subtle film that presents itself as one thing, transforms slowly into another, then hits you a bus of horror.

Matchbox: The Movie is barely about Matchbox cars. It ends up being a little bit of Fast and the Furious and a little bit of True Lies meets Grosse Pointe Blank with a small (tiny) pinch of The Road Warrior–but never as good as any one of those films were. When I first saw Ready or Not, I was completely entranced by its completely absurd brand of horror comedy that follows Samara Weaving as Grace, a young woman on her wedding day as she married into the wealthy Le Domas family.
